Albert Einstein on complexity and intelligent fools
In these heady days of 2,300 page financial “reform” bills and 2,000 page health care “reform” bills, perhaps we should heed the words of Einstein.
Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex. It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage – to move in the opposite direction.
While we’re on the topic, it’s important to note that intelligence is no real determinant of effective or moral public policymaking. If we accept the common wisdom that Barack Obama is an intelligent man, we also have to accept that we have more to fear from him. Intelligence and overreach are nasty in combination. Were we to throw political expediency in the mix, we’d have pure poison.
